IN-SPACE CONSTRUCTION TOOLKIT

IN-SPACE CONSTRUCTION TOOLKIT

The Toolkit is the suite of technologies being developed to support in-space construction and servicing. The Toolkit consists of a robotic arm and interchangeable end effectors to allow the arm to perform the respective tasks of the Toolkit systems. The tools include ThinkWeld, ThinkInspect, and ThinkPrint systems. While it is not necessary to purchase more than a single component of the Toolkit, there is great value in getting the fully integrated system as it can turn any spacecraft into a space domain awareness and OSAM capable craft, vastly increasing capabilities of any mission.

Electron Beam Welding

Electron beam welding has been successfully tested in space. Although it requires a high vacuum environment, it can often be seen in specialized production facilities on Earth.

It is arguably the best welding method, with highest strength of welds and the smallest heat affected zone. It can weld 30 cm of steel in a single pass, with energy efficiency over 90%.

LARGE SCALE SPACE STRUCTURES

The in-orbit robotic assembly and electron beam welding can enable building significantly larger structures of next generations of space stations. We can imagine orbital shipyards, domes and propellant tanks of lunar station etc.
